Presentation

The Graduate Program in Meteorology was created in 1995 and accredited by CAPES with its current lines of research in 2000, beginning its activities in 2001. It received a grade of 3 in the last evaluation by CAPES (2010).

Area of Concentration

Lines of Research

1 - Climatology
Study of weather and climate variability through the atmospheric and oceanic temperature changes, which aims to understand the current and future characteristics of the climate of southern Brazil. Use of qualitative and/or quantitative modeling as tools to assess impacts of climatic events in the social, environmental and economic dimensions as well as support in the training process of the student.

2 - Mesoscale Meteorology
Develop studies on mesoscale systems that occur over the southern region of Brazil, South America and fluctuations of weather and/or climate models using data from satellites, radar and techniques of qualitative and/or quantitative modeling as a support tool in the process of the student's education.

3 - Microscale Meteorology
Study on the turbulence in the planetary boundary layer (PBL), derive and test turbulent diffusion coefficients for different PLCs, using models and techniques of qualitative and/or quantitative modeling to study the transport of pollutants in the PBL and its impacts on social, environmental and economic dimensions.
