UFPel Graduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism (PROGRAU for its spelling in Portuguese) was accredited by CAPES in 2007 and started its activities on August 2008, admitting its first class in that same year. The program is aimed at the expanded, theoretical, practical and critical training of high-level researchers and professionals, native and foreign, developing abilities in:

- Understanding and intervening in the forms of organization and design of the built environment, including the production of architecture (both from the past and the present), environmental and cultural heritage (in different scales), as well as urban systems;

- Researching and producing knowledge applicable in practice, on issues of quality and the built environment technologies;

- Understanding reality in a critical way, being guided in their activities by high ethical values, aware of their role in promoting scientific, technological and artistic knowledge relevant to their area as a tool for the development of the entire society.

The instruction for the Master’s degree in the field of Architecture and Urbanism proposes to:

- Qualify professional practices from public and private institutions working in the areas covered by the program;

- Bring the contributions of theoretical and practical studies undertaken in the program as tool of enrichment to undergraduate teaching of Architecture and Urbanism, either through the transfer of knowledge, pure and simple, or through the favorable impact of habits and academic practices and the various methods of approach between these two levels of education;

- Strengthen and provide continuity to the bonds of UFPel and the School of Architecture and Urbanism with the community and with public and private institutions working in the area of concentration of the program, supporting actions and projects with research and advanced studies;

- Advance knowledge in the area of Architecture and Urbanism; aiming to train new professors and researchers;

Considering the perspectives of evolution and trend, in 2012 the program started an international agreement with Oxford Brookes University in Oxford City, England. The purpose of this agreement is to promote the development of joint research, student and teaching mobility and, consequently, the exchange of knowledge between UFPel and the foreign university, allowing the areas of concentration of PROGRAU to have international visibility within the European framework of research, teaching and extension. In addition to the developmental stages of PROGRAU, there is also the proposed doctoral program, with faculty and current infrastructure in place to provide the ideal conditions for its growth.
